This Peru travel package is ideal for those who like to experience the culture and nature of the country. Start with Cusco, the old Inca capital; continue with the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu; and finally, enjoy the extraordinary biodiversity of the Amazon Rainforest.

Tours in Cusco & Machu Picchu

To start this Peru travel package, you will travel to Cusco, the old Inca capital and the main destination of everyone's trip. Cusco has a unique charm and provides an interesting mix of Andean and Spanish cultures. Filled with ancient Inca sites and colonial buildings sat alongside modern restaurants and upmarket cafes, Cusco has a little something for everyone.

After a short train journey from Cusco, you will travel to Machu Picchu and discover the captivating and mystic Inca city. Surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery and with some of the most impressive Inca buildings ever constructed, Machu Picchu is the highlight of Peru.

Tours in the Amazon Rainforest

Enjoy the Southern Jungle, the most beautiful Rainforest of Peru, and learn about the native people who live in small communities along the Tambopata River. This green paradise is particular famous for its monkeys, giant river otters, black caimans, capybaras, tapirs, and hundreds of bird species. The world's largest known mineral clay lick is also found at this area, where hundreds of parrots and macaws congregate daily to lick the clay.

Arrival and transfer to the hotel in Cusco. Free time to rest and get used to the altitude.

In the afternoon, Cusco City Tour, visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Sun Temple or Koricancha.

We continue out of the city to visit nearby ruins: Kenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara, and the amazing Sacsayhuaman Fortress, built tactically in a hill, dominating Cusco, famous by its huge carved stones assembled with accuracy that astonish, forming the external walls of the complex.

Some of these stones exceed the 9 meters (29.50 feet) high and weigh more than 350 Tons (771,617.80 pounds). Return to your hotel.

Overnight in Cusco.

Departure for the Sacred Valley Tour. Visit the Pisaq Market (Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday), where you will experiment the customs of the settlers otherwise you can visit Pisaq Ruins (Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday). Buffet lunch in a Valley local restaurant.

In the afternoon go by Calca and Urubamba on the way to the Ollantaytambo Fortress, built to guard the entrance of this part of the valley and protect it from possible invasions of the settlers of the jungle; this is made up by a series of terraces (each one put on top of the other). We will have the chance to walk by the mini streets of the town and with this have a good idea how was this military, religious and cultural center during the Inca Empire.

On the way back to Cusco, visit the picturesque town of Chincheros where you can find the ruins of the Royal Farm of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. Admire its well preserved Inca wall in the Main Square; visit the beautiful colonial temple with interesting frescos in the porch, built over the base of an Inca Structure.

Overnight in Cusco.

Transfer to Poroy or Ollantaytambo station to take the train to Aguas Calientes. At your arrival, you will take the bus up to Machu Picchu and explore the great “Lost City of the Incas”.

Once there, you will take a guided tour, visiting the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Intihuatana (sacred solar clock), the Royal Rooms, the Three Windows Temple and the Cemeteries. After the tour, you will have time to explore the Sanctuary on your own.

In the afternoon, take the bus down to Aguas Calientes. Transfer, on your own, to the station to take a train back to Poroy or Ollantaytambo Station, where a bus will be waiting for you to transfer to Cusco.

*The train departures and/or arrivals can be from Poroy Station or Ollantaytambo Station, depending of the availability of the trains company.

Transfer to the airport to board your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the river port for your departure by motor boat to Posada Amazonas lodge. Arrival to the lodge and accommodation.

Canopy Tower:
A twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas leads to the 30 meter scaffolding canopy tower. A banister staircase running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. From atop you will obtain spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forest cut by the Tambopata River winding through the middle. Now and then toucans, parrots or macaws are seen flying against the horizon, or mixed species canopy flocks land in the treetop next to you.

Ecotourism Project:
Nightly presentation prepared by the staff of Posada Amazonas Lodge about the Infierno ecotourism project is available every day.

Overnight at Posada Amazonas.

Tres Chimbadas Lake:
Tres Chimbadas is thirty minutes by boat and forty five minutes hiking from Posada Amazonas. Once there you will paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin and horned screamers. Otters are most active from dawn to 8 or 9 AM.

Parrot Clay Lick:
Clay lick is only a twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas. From a blind located about twenty meters away you will see dozens of parrots and parakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a river bank. Species such as Mealy and Yellow- headed Amazon, Blue-headed Parrot and Dusky headed Parakeet descend at this clay lick. The clay lick is active at dawn, during the late mornings and mid-afternoons.

Ethnobotanical Tour:
A twenty minute boat drive downriver leads you to a trail designed by the staff of the Centro Ñape. The Centro Ñape is a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them to patients who choose their little clinic. They have produced a trail which explains the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants.

Night Walk:
You will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active but rarely seen. Much easier to find are frogs with shapes and sounds as bizarre as their natural histories.

Overnight at Posada Amazonas.

At the scheduled time, return by motor boat to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport to take your flight to Lima.
